The second molar is decayed. The decay is into the pulp or nerve of the tooth causing a pulpitis. The decay is removed from the tooth and then restored with composite material before the root canal was started.

The root canal is completed and a post was placed. Notice the restorative material replacing the decay. This tooth had three canals. One canal was very curved.
